Alberto Mesirca: British Guitar Music
When Alberto Mesirca proposed to do a recording of British guitar music for paladino, he wanted to do Graham Whettam's monumental Guitar Partita and also asked if I wanted to make a "guest appearance" on this recording. Having recorded all other cello music by Graham Whettam (paladino music PMR0041), we quickly decided on this version of the Serenade, which Graham had arranged for me in the early 2000s. The trip to the recording session near Venice was not only another wonderful musical encounter with a great colleague but also an opportunity for me to go back to one of my favourite places in the world: the Gran Scuola di San Rocco in Venice, decorated by Tintoretto ...
Graham Whettam's music should be much more known than it actually is - I still think that his cello concerto is a true masterpiece, and the string quartets, symphonies and other chamber music have the quality of timeless music. Thanks to Alberto there is now another proof of that fact.
